I know the coaching staff really likes the incoming recruits, and with the addition of White, I think you'll see players more suited for Miles' style and what he expects. I'm not sure what the win-loss record will look like, but I'll predict it's better than last seasons, and with more team-oriented basketball. Combine that with the fact that Miles has already led one NCAA Tournament team, and his track record for building programs, and that's something for the glass-half-full crowd to lean upon.
He likes motion, but the players he's had so far have struggled with that concept.
If the report is true, which I don't have reason to believe it's not, yes, it's something of an odd matchup. But this is also a new challenge, so maybe the parameters are different -- i.e., maybe they aren't into the "comparative programs" as much as the Big Ten/ACC Challenge. Not every team competes the Big Ten/Big East challenge, either. Only eight each year, and on a rotating basis of some sort through 2020
.
I've not watched him play a full game, only highlights, so it's hard for me to compare him -- plus, as I've said here before, I'm a horrible recruiting analyst in that regard. But I see him as a two-guard, and yes, something who can provide a boost in perimeter shooting. I think he's also a good rebounding guard, like Andrew White.
Good question, Pam. When he's signed (today later, perhaps) and coaches can talk about him, I'll ask. In general, newcomers can go on the trip as long as they're here for summer classes, yes. I would assume that would be the case for Jack, too, but I'm not 100 percent certain.
I'm hearing that could be the case ....
In terms of him helping Nebraska in a more, shall we saw, team-oriented role, yes, what you say makes sense. I think his return could really help Nebraska. In terms of Terran benefiting from improving his stock for the next level, I don't see that as big of a factor.
I have not heard that. Only that he was going to announce he was declaring for the draft.
He would have to develop a LOT, in my opinion, to be considered a starter. That doesn't mean he can improve/develop enough to play significant minutes. Just because he's 6-11, and Nebraska has no others that tall, doesn't mean he'll start.
That's an easier question to answer once I know what the roster looks like. But names to eye are Shields, White, Watson and Morrow.
Honestly, it's a difficult situation to read right now. My sources told me Petteway was going to declare for the draft. Whether his mother's death changes his thought process, I know not. Perhaps later in the week we'll know something, and for certain by the end of next week we will. (The deadline to declare is April 26). His return would help postseason chances next year, but I don't think an NCAA run hangs on his decision. My guess is it will be a tough haul, regardless, with so many new players.
I wouldn't classify it as "major." I think everyone knew Georgia was the top school all along, so I don't think Nebraska was hanging and hoping on him. Could he have helped? Most certainly.
I think they can win at least one of those three, yes. Maybe even two.
I'm not expecting changes at this point, but yet, the coaching carousel is still in motion, although quickly slowing down.
Sorry, I don't have names to share of big guys right now. At least, nothing serious. Still keeping an eye on the transfer wire, though.
I will tell you there's a chance, Andy. Yes. I wish I could tell you who for certain.
Bakari Eveyln didn't have major offers, but given Nebraska's loss of Tarin Smith, he's a viable option to fill a sudden need with point guard depth. Glynn Watson is still the man, in my opinion, at point guard. But you need depth, and Benny Parker, a senior, is the only other guy. Tai is primarily a two-guard now.
It could be both. I mean, at this point in the process, recruits are pretty picked over. I'd probably focus on fifth-year guys still, maybe a juco. I'm never a fan of having to fill scholarships this late in the game, but it is what it is. Nebraska can't afford merely bodies, though.
That's a good question, but unfortunately one I don't have a sure answer on. We know they will host an ACC team in the Challenge. I would suspect them to begin a home-and-home with a major conference opponent, but who, I know not. Road schedule will be challenging with games at Creighton, reportedly at Villanova and two games in the Barclays Classic.
Yes, he remains committed to Nebraska, but won't sign until the 2016-17 class. Has another year with the Blue Dragons.
Happy Wednesday to all. I'll be taking your Nebrasketball questions over the next hour. Let's get started.
