Let me say I'm glad to see Tommy up and on the sideline. That being said, is it normal for long term qbs to have such bad mechanics? "Bad Armstrong" is referenced by all announcers....Taylor Martinez never got better....is this common with other programs?
by GopherHusker11/6/2016 3:20:15 AM
Its not a different time at all. Its still about scheme and effort. You build a team around your talent. This is a staff that tries to force a round peg into a square hole. This is why Oregon St. was always a .500 team.
by thebone6311/6/2016 3:20:17 AM
You're probably right, Frank, but this team has 22 seniors on the 2 deep, some really good players we've counted on among them. Dave Wannstedt called this season a window for Riley he couldn't afford to miss.
by JimNE11/6/2016 3:20:23 AM
I wonder if Barrett will be in the game
by Bopelinifan11/6/2016 3:23:21 AM
Please don't give up a 98 yard drive....
by Steve in Arlington 11/6/2016 3:23:24 AM
At least we have the election to look forward to this week.
by Ben A.11/6/2016 3:23:25 AM
There's 11-12 wins and there's getting blown out. Bad coaching and played with no energy or focus most of the game. Ryker's. In a tough spot but many on the team and coaching booth are laying an egg. We should be competitive in every game.
by Sdhusker11/6/2016 3:23:26 AM
It certainly is about being a different time. Can't live in the past. A different scheme or play calling tonight wouldn't of done much. It's about talent on the field and coaching that talent and putting it in the best position to win. Both departments need to be severely upgraded, but the progress from last year to this year is multifold. Have to take it and move on and build on it. If Nick Saban were coaching the Huskers tonight I doubt the outcome would be different.
by Frank11/6/2016 3:25:08 AM
I think that Ohio State is going to hold on to win this one...
by Paul11/6/2016 3:25:27 AM
NU beat UCLA by pounding the ball with a FB and tailback. It worked. Why stick with what works. NU will never get the talent to run the same schemes as the big boys. It will always be 2nd tier players. You have to run a different offense that teams arent used to seeing. IE. pistol, wishbone, Power I offense etc.
by thebone6311/6/2016 3:25:28 AM
Riley hasn't had a chance yet. Last year was a bye littered with the worst breaks in football. This year is a vast improvement but he is still having to use Pelini's guys. Talent, yes, but not elite. Although Banker is questionable as a D coordinator, Riley has focused heavily on recruiting and is doing a good job. Holding some good redshirt talent in reserve this year in QB and on the O line. It will be fun to see the new talent and look next year, especially O'Brien, who actually makes his reads and has an accurate arm. But this year will be viewed as a good 10-win season (with one disaster-tonight). Good things lie ahead.
by unl0411/6/2016 3:25:58 AM
There are 64 households outside of Ohio viewing this game currently.
by Nielsen Ratings11/6/2016 3:26:34 AM
There was no national championship this season. 22 seniors or 50 seniors, doesn't matter. Talent wins. Just don't have enough of it. Coaching needs to get better. Blowouts happen.
by Frank11/6/2016 3:26:35 AM
I agree Frank. I'd be happy with 9 or 10 a year. None of these nights would be great though. I can live with last week. Obviously they are more talented. We saw that at Oklahoma. Losing by 20 or so would be understandable, but not enjoyable. Some bad breaks, some poor decisions, and a whole lot of tackling and assignment disasters make tonight unacceptable. Just hope this doesn't run into next week
by JB11/6/2016 3:27:26 AM
Unl04 well said
by Steve in Arlington 11/6/2016 3:27:52 AM
Your crazy Frank. Saban would be chewing butt. He would demand performance ala Woody Hayes, Devaney, etc. They might still lose but not be embarrassed, again. NU will never get the talent across the board.
by thebone6311/6/2016 3:27:52 AM
Stay the course. Regroup for the next game, remain confident after this blowout. Get that 8th win and move on.
by Frank11/6/2016 3:27:53 AM
We will lose at least one more game this year we won't win 10 games
by Bopelinifan11/6/2016 3:28:10 AM
Several of the assistants aren't cutting the mustard. I like Riley but not good people coaching special teams and both coordinators aren't getting it done.
by Sdhusker11/6/2016 3:28:34 AM
SO AGAIN EVEN ON THE TWO, will not force a punt
by Steve in Arlington 11/6/2016 3:28:35 AM
Okay, chewing butt and yelling and screaming. That will stop the Buckeyes from scoring 60 points? Get real. The gap in talent it just too great.
by Frank11/6/2016 3:29:07 AM
60 point blow outs don't happen much come on this is horrible
by Bopelinifan11/6/2016 3:29:15 AM
Yea, the butt chewing worked out great for the previous staff
by JB11/6/2016 3:30:56 AM
Any beats on 70-3?
by WaHusker11/6/2016 3:31:40 AM
And you really think the talent will come to NU over USC, Bama, Texas, Mich. Florida? Never going to happen. You need a unique scheme at NU. Something that the elite dont practice to defend. Look at undermanned Navy, ND state, Air Force.
by thebone6311/6/2016 3:31:42 AM
Our research indicates that continual excuse-making is an essential trait of a mediocre football program.
by Nielsen Ratings11/6/2016 3:31:46 AM
Will never get the talent Ohio st has as lng as urban Myers at osu will never beat them
by Bopelinifan11/6/2016 3:31:47 AM
F***** embarrassing! I think we all have to accept the 90's are long gone and aren't coming back. Ever. I'm over it. Tired of being disappointed. There's no excuse losing by 60+.
by Cory V11/6/2016 3:31:49 AM
I thought this would be about a difference of ten. I was thinking points, not touchdowns. Now it looks like we'll lose the fourth quarter too. Coaching talent, whatever you want to call it. Players need to tackle, stay on blocks. No effort tonight
by Steve in Arlington 11/6/2016 3:31:50 AM
Chewing butt doesnt mean going insane like Pelini. Its about accountability.
by thebone6311/6/2016 3:32:16 AM
The current class ranks is 25. Riley's first full class was ranked 26. Bo's last 2 full classes were 17 and 32. I thought it was time to move on from Bo, too, but just like tonight's game, we spent $9,000,000 to fire Bo and his staff and got what? A career 500 coach who has never won anything.
by JimNE11/6/2016 3:32:34 AM
Actually, I'm irritated but not screaming. Looking at it objectively and over the past several games (4th quarter wins), the coordinators aren't getting it done. Special teams with the exception of the field goal team have hurt us repeatedly. I agree that Ohio State has great talent. Why is it then that Northwestern and Wisconsin took them to the wire? We didn't have our heads in it and the coordinators weren't up to the task.
by Sdhusker11/6/2016 3:33:01 AM
Cornhuskers will finish the season 10-2 and go to a very good bowl game. Enjoy it fellas. Throw tonight's game tape in the trash. This is progress. Last week was a tough game, winnable game on the road against a solid Wisconsin team. Bad loss tonight. Riley wasn't and will never be Nick Saban or Woody Hayes. Be thankful for what we have.
by Frank11/6/2016 3:33:08 AM
Better be 69 and not 70. If Meyer goes for two I"ll lose it
by JB11/6/2016 3:33:12 AM
In one word "Embarrassing ". Interested to see Riley's take on this one.
by JC79 11/6/2016 3:33:37 AM
One last unsolicited comment from the Sooner fan: I know the Huskers are happy in the Big 10, but I sure miss playing you guys right after Thanksgiving. What a great series it was.
by Robotic11/6/2016 3:33:39 AM
This may be the score in men's basketball against Ohio State as well...
by Nielsen Ratings11/6/2016 3:34:25 AM
I agree Jim Ne
by Bopelinifan11/6/2016 3:34:25 AM
Great post, SD Husker.
by JimNE11/6/2016 3:34:27 AM
Coordinators are under the leadership of the head coach. He brought his .500 staff with him. If Riley cant see the problem, he is the problem.
