Guys, I'm going to cut the chat a little short this week. My alma mater, Ravenna, is playing in the girls state tournament at 2 p.m., and I'm going to make my way over there to check them out. I'm getting to that age where I know more of the parents of the players than I do the players, but it'll be fun to get to a state tourney game. Haven't been to one in a few years. Thanks as always for the questions, and we'll chat again next week.

I wouldn't read too much into them. I think he was frustrated, and rightfully so, after the way the Huskers played against Illinois. Tim Miles said yesterday he didn't have a problem with them, and considered Jacobson to be speaking like a coach in that the players had the choice to either give up on the season or keep fighting, and he expected them to keep fighting.

Another thing on Jacobson: He has always been great to talk to from a media standpoint. He's a great kid; never declined an interview; always gives great answers. He and Jeriah Horne were in a tough spot as a sophomore and a freshman the other night having to answer questions after how that game went, and I thought they both did a good job.

That's an excellent question. I think obviously you want to see this team compete a little better than they did against Michigan State and Illinois and, if nothing else, build some positive momentum going into the offseason. Not letting these next few opponents go off from three-point range would be a good step too. NU had done a fairly decent job the four games before Illinois of taking that away, but the Illini just lit them up. Hopefully they've found some answers there. And who knows. Maybe they catch lightning in a bottle here and make a little run. I'm not taking anything off the table at this point.

I will never understand why Thomas was not offered by Nebraska. An Omaha kid with great length and athleticsm, Mr. Basketball for his class if I remember correctly. I just hope that Coach Miles understands that there is serious, B1G talent in the metro area in Omaha that can help us win. I think I can put together a list of 5 guys from Omaha playing college basketball other places that I will take over Nebraska's starting 5. I understand that you can't get every kid in Omaha and some fly totally under the radar (Patton), but my goodness Nebraska should focus there and dominate that area in terms of recruiting IMO.

Seems as though this is a nice Q&A between you and I. If that is the case I may start asking questions I have asked myself about this team and program. 1. What does Miles need to do in the next 3-4 games to prove not only to SE but the fan base he hasnt lost his team? His greatest asset outside of that silver tongue has been his ability to have his kids fight even if down 14 with 1:30 left. If he loses his team what does he have?

I think that's one of the positives you can look at. Miles certainly hasn't lost this team. If he had, I think it would be obvious and I think he'd be in real danger of losing his job. But this group really seems to enjoy being around one another, they play hard, and they have a really good attitude in the face of some disappointing losses. I think a lot of that goes back to the head coach. I would expect a really good effort not only tonight, but Sunday against Michigan as well. When looking at things like that, I think you have to take the whole season into account and not just the last few games (unless the last few games are just total disasters). Miles has a likable group that gets along with each other, and I think a lot of guys have shown real development this season.

At this point I think it's Indiana. That team is a mess, even though they got Northwestern at home the other night. I think Ohio State is a very even matchup (duh, they've played two 1-point games) and the Buckeyes have enough guys to give NU problems. The Huskers smoked Penn State, but that's a young team that can look lousy one night and look pretty great the next. The Hoosiers, to me, look like a team ready to for the season to be done with.

I think so. Barring any major injuries, defections, etc., on paper that's a roster built to win 20 or more games, which would certainly get them in the field. I've said from the start he should get another year, and I'm sticking with that, but I think he needs this program to take a step forward next year.

Yeah I think Crean's gone, whether he gets fired or leaves on his own (he'll probably get fired). I bet the Hoosiers look really hard at Chris Holtmann, the head coach at Butler. He's done an excellent job there, has a reputation as a very good recruiter, and is more defensive-minded than Crean. And I think Indiana fans are still smarting from the fact that Brad Stevens went from Butler to the NBA. That's a hire that makes a lot of sense to me, if Hotlmann is interested.

As far as Big Ten favorites next year, I think there's going to be a long list. Michigan State and Minnesota should both be pretty good, along with Illinois, who right now has the No. 1 recruiting class in the conference. You would think Wisconsin and Purdue will both be down a little bit, but I suppose you can never count programs like that out. I could see Nebraska next year being like Minnesota this year and making a real strong run at being in the top four of the league.

I know he recently had his surgery, so now it's a matter of getting recovered from that and getting back to working out. Haven't heard anything on his eligibility for next season, but I've been meaning to ask Miles that. The NCAA seems to operate on its own timeline, so who knows when Nebraska might get a decision on that. I think he'll be a huge help next season, on both ends.

The biggest reason I think there should be a coaching change this year is it's easier to sell the job with a young roster versus in a year or two when a good chunk of the core roster will be facing graduation. Miles runs an offense that is way too stagnated and predictable and I don't see that changing.

At next weeks state tourney, who should Miles be looking at either for 2017 or 2018 recruiting? Who are your favorites in each class?
On the other gender, does Amy Williams see any potential NU players in this weekend's girl's tournament?
Are any staff reporters doing stories on high schools that have both boys & girls teams in this year's state tournaments? -
I'll be honest and say I haven't followed Nebraska high school basketball very closely this season, so I can't give you a real good answer on that one.. I know Miles went out to watch Brady Heimann from Platteview the other night -- 6-10 kid who's only going to keep growing. I think he's an intriguing prospect - maybe an under-the-radar, Mike Daum type.
